Topic: Need Gallery With Unique URL For Each Image

In the near future, I am going to need a tool for creating a gallery on the web where each image has its own unique URL. The gallery will be part of my own website.

Once the gallery is published on the web, I will need to be able to copy and paste URL's that will function as links to specific images. Also, I want the potential to exist for search engines to find specific images based on words in its description or title.

Flickr works this way. For example, one can search the name of a person or place on Google, and specific images on Flickr will turn up in the search results. I don't really understand whether using Simpleviewer, Juicebox, or Showkase result in a gallery providing the possibility of members of the general public discovering particular images this way.

Searching "unique URL" on this forum brings up topics suggesting this capability is possible. But at the same time, most of the discussions are above my head. I know that I am going to want something that is HTML5 based, not Flash. Also, considering my lack of experience designing a website, Showkase sounds like it might be the right tool for me.

Can someone please advise?

Setting enableDirectLinks="TRUE" in your gallery's XML file would allow you to link directly to individual images within a Juicebox gallery by using URLs such as: http://www.example.com/gallery#2
Please note that enableDirectLinks is a Juicebox-Pro option (which is not available in Juicebox-Lite).

Also, I want the potential to exist for search engines to find specific images based on words in its description or title.

This is not possible with Juicebox-Pro out-of-the-box but may be possible by implementing this technique (though it may be rather complex to achieve). You would first need to implement a new direct linking technique (as Juicebox natively uses # rather than #!) and you would also need to provide HTML snapshots. All of this can perhaps be achieved for a web site containing a Juicebox gallery but it cannot all be integrated within Juicebox itself.

I know that I am going to want something that is HTML5 based, not Flash. Also, considering my lack of experience designing a website, Showkase sounds like it might be the right tool for me.

Showkase would certainly allow you to create a portfolio website with no coding knowledge (please see the Showkase Site Demos here), and Juicebox is, indeed, an HTML5 (non-Flash) image viewer but using Juicebox in conjunction with Showkase would not solve your SEO wishes.

Thanks. My images aren't ready yet, but I will probably consider Showkase in the future.

What about URL's that looks more like this:

http://www.example.com/photos-by-X/galleryname/1-of-25

http://www.example.com/photos-by-X/galleryname/2-of-25

http://www.example.com/photos-by-X/galleryname/3-of-25

And so on.

Juicebox-Pro does not create individual directories or pages for each image in a gallery and supports only the #[number] notation for direct linking to individual images.

If this URL format "http://www.example.com/photos-by-X/galleryname/1-of-25" is not a requirment you can contact me here http://www.captureme.marcopietschmann.com/  I  can build you a juicebox or simpleviever gallery where every image is indexed and can be searched.

Let's take the Photo Galleries on www.csmonitor.com as an example. (I am not affiliated with www.csmonitor.com. I was just searching for information about the sinkhole in Florida, and discovered their Photo Galleries.) I experimented with searching text from the descriptions of the photos at:

http://www.csmonitor.com/Photo-Gallerie … -the-world

For example, I searched "Hughes Relocation Services, June 2012" from the description of Image 6/12 on Google. The search results included the photo gallery. (Without quotes, Page 3 of about 6,590,000 results; with quotes, it was the only result.) Clicking on the provided link doesn't go directly to the image; it goes to the View Gallery page.

Although that's not exactly what I was asking for, it's not bad. At least the text in the description is apparently crawlable. Will Showkase provide for this? (Sorry if I am repeating a question that was already answered.)

P.S. I started this thread on Juicebox-Lite Support only because I haven't purchased anything. But I would purchase Juicebox-Pro or Showkase.

Not at the moment. The titles and captions in a Juicebox gallery (whether Lite or Pro) are not indexed by Google but we are currently investigating SEO and Juicebox.
In the meantime, please take a look at this forum post for a possible workaround.

"Not at the moment" is actually very encouraging. My images are not ready yet anyway. So I'll pass on the workaround for now, and wait and see what happens with SEO and Juicebox.

I ended up using SmugMug, but may still want to use Juicebox for a different project.

Yes. JuiceboxBuilder-Pro (since v1.3.0) features SEO support so that gallery content can be indexed by search engines.
Please see here for details.

Showkase also has the ability to add SEO content to Juicebox and SimpleViewer gallery pages.
You'll find the 'Add SEO content' checkbox in the gallery page settings.
