Topic: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Slideshows when running on an iPad Pro in landscape mode are getting cropped about 2/3 across the screen - the right 1/3 is cut off. The slides function fine though. In portrait mode there doesn't seem to be an issue. Is there a way to fix this before getting a new release of the Builder?

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Please check to see if you see the same problem in any or all of our demo galleries on this page: http://www.juicebox.net/demos/

Also, please let me know what version of iOS your device is running and whether you see the problem in Mobile Safari only or also in other browsers such as Mobile Chrome and Mobile Firefox.

It might also help if I were able to see the gallery that you are referring to so please post the URL to your gallery's web page so that I can take a look at the problem for myself.

Other things to check:
(1) Make sure that you have set imageScaleMode="SCALE_DOWN" or imageScaleMode="SCALE". Other values for imageScaleMode (FILL or NONE) may result in images being cropped.
(2) Make sure that you do not have any custom CSS rules on your gallery's web page that may be interfering with the gallery.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

The website with the issue is danqing-art.com. Both the Painting and Jewelry galleries have the same configuration. The iPad Pro is running iOS 9.2.1. I see the cropping problem in Mobile Safari and Mobile Firefox, but not on Mobile Chrome. Using the remote web inspector on Mobile Safari I see that the body width/height is being shown as 1024px by 962px, when the width of the screen is actually 1366px.

So it definitely is not related to any image scaling, but something to do with how the Mobile Safari and Mobile Firefox screen widths are being interpreted.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Unfortunately, I do not have access to an iPad Pro but I have viewed your galleries on an iPhone running iOS 9.2.1 and do not see any cropping of your images in portrait or landscape orientations (in Mobile Chrome, Mobile Firefox and Mobile Safari).

As your galleries are full page galleries (with no other content on the pages), there is certainly no conflicting CSS.
It sounds like the problem may be directly related to certain mobile browser/device combinations and is not something that can be fixed with any of the available configuration options.

Perhaps the best course of action would be for you to provide a screenshot demonstrating the problem and I will pass it on to the developers who will investigate further. Please upload a screenshot somewhere (either your own web server or a file sharing service such as Dropbox) and post a link to it in this forum thread.

Also, does the problem happen when the gallery is initially loaded in landscape orientation or just when the device is rotated into landscape orientation?

Thank you.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Below are screenshots showing the issue in Mobile Safari and Mobile Firefox. I added screens of the Safari desktop dev window showing the calculated width as well as the mydevice.io page showing width details. I have a Samsung 12.2" tablet and it doesn't have this issue in landscape.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Many thanks for the screenshots.

Out of interest, could you please check to see if the same problem occurs with either of the following full page demo galleries. (That way, we can use one of our own galleries as a test case without relying on your own URLs.) Thank you.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Here are screenshots of the lite and pro galleries. I took screenshots of the mydevice.io page in Chrome and Firefox although I don't see any difference. I am seeing the same exact issue with the demo galleries too.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Thank you for the additional testing and screenshots.
Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to your problem but I have notified the developers who will investigate further.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

This issue (which is unique to the iPad Pro) will be fixed in the next version of Juicebox.

@robertcoldwell
Thank you very much for reporting the problem and for your help in resolving the issue (via email).

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Are you still developing Juicebox Pro?  I noticed there hasn't been any movement for a while now.  This issue prevents me from using Juicbox Pro as I use an iPad Pro to present materials to my clients, and it is cut off at the 2/3 frame.  Can we expect this resolved soon, or is there a refund option?  I am back to the built in galleries and TPG galleries.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Are you still developing Juicebox Pro?

Yes, absolutely. We are very busy behind the scenes working on the next version, fixing bugs and adding new features.

Can we expect this resolved soon, or is there a refund option?

The next version is scheduled to be v1.4.5 (a free upgrade for all existing Juicebox-Pro users) but, unfortunately, I do not know when it will be released. We hope to release it sooner rather than later but it is not ready yet. Any estimate I give you could turn out to be wholly inaccurate. I hope you understand.

With regard to the bug relating to the iPad Pro, the developers have already addressed the problem and it will be fixed in the next release.

Our Money Back Guarantee is noted on the Download page:

If for any reason Juicebox-Pro does not meet your requirements, email us within 30 days of your order and we'll give you a 100% refund.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Would you consider a hot fix just for this iPad pro issue?

Thanks

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

@rj74

Although, historically, we have released hotfix versions before, I think we are probably too far down the path with regard to preparation for the next version to release a hotfix version to fix only this problem at this point in time.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Juicebox-Pro v1.5.0 has just been released and fixes the issue reported in this thread.
Please see this blog entry for details of the new version and the Version History for a full list of changes.
Details on how to get the latest version can be found on the Upgrading Juicebox support page.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Hi Steven,

I've just been disappointed to discover that this is happening to my site too, with an iPad Pro 12.9.  All my galleries have been updated to 1.5.1 (by copying the jbcore folder via ftp).

I don't have an iPad Pro myself (although I'm probably going to get one) but saw one this evening and checked my site on it and discovered this problem.

Luckily I've been using another gallery software for client galleries, but my main site is all JB 1.5.1

Could you take a look Steven, to see if all is as it should be for 1.5.1?

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

@gfs

The issue reported above was addressed by the developers, confirmed as fixed (via email) by the original poster (robertcoldwell) and the bugfix was included in Juicebox v1.5.0 (which was released on 24 May 2016).

It certainly seems strange (though not impossible) that the problem would crop up again over a year later in a different version.

One thing I notice which could be causing layout problems is that there are several HTML errors on your web pages, including stray and unclosed <p> and <span> tags (and extra double-quotes alongside certain <div> attributes). Also, your gallery <div> containers are inside <p> tags. (A <p> element should not contain another block-level element such as a <div>.)

Try validating your gallery web pages with the W3C Markup Validation Service and fix the errors reported.
Once the code on your web pages validates correctly, the web pages should be rendered with greater consistency and predictability across different browsers and devices.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to an iPad Pro so cannot check your web pages in such a device myself.
If, after fixing the HTML errors on your web pages, you still see the problem, then I'll happily compile a report for the developers who will investigate further but it would help to have as much information about the problem as possible so please let me know the following (if you can).

(1) What version of iOS was the iPad Pro running?
(2) What browser or browsers (Mobile Safari, Mobile Chrome or any others) did you see the problem in?
(3) If you can gain access to the iPad Pro again, please provide a screenshot of the problem (and let me know which of your galleries it is from) so that we can see exactly what you are seeing.
(4) Also, if possible, please let me know if the problem occurs in any of our demo galleries here.

Thank you.

Re: iPad Pro landscape cropping [SOLVED]

Hi Steven,

apologies for wasting your time.  I've now understood that the problem was a lack of page height.  Adding a few dozen pixels to the page height has fixed the problem, which it seems has always existed on my sites, but I never noticed before, because by chance, it was only a small error and therefore barely noticeable on the smaller iPads. :)

So, thanks again for taking the time to check it out for me and apologies that it was uneccessary.

Grant
