I reckon I am close to a tolerable system. Not perfect as the text can overlay the thumbnails and I'm happy to look into embedding the gallery in a page.

The text does overlay on a 5" phone but on an 8" tablet it is almost clear.

I removed the second line break that you were using.

The beauty of this way of working is that it is one step. Embedding the gallery into a page would presumably be two steps and I am not sure it is worth the effort - but I am willing to be persuaded.

Do make any suggestions you feel will take me forward. I know I have a long way to go compared with the journey of the last few days.

Steven.

After a real struggle I have worked out how to use GIMP to produce text with a transparent background.

Now to re-look at the image sizes.

Tony

Thank you Steven,

If I create a copyright notice as part of my 'Images of..' watermark that will reduce one thing from the header. But thankyou for doing that bit of code. Apart from anything else it helps me learn web site coding lingo.

I see what you mean about putting the gallery in a web page. For the user it is not quite so intuitive as showing them the gallery on its own. More icons to click.

With that in mind I will try (a) to reduce the amount in the header and (b) smaller thumbnails to see if I can end up with a gallery on its own.

But nevertheless could you elaborate a bit on " by using a page template with a header and/or footer to accommodate extra content)." What is a page template?

At the moment I have not worked out how to make a watermark with a transparent background using my normal picture editor which is Picture Window Pro. I am trying to find out if PWP will do transparency. If not I'll look for another program that will make a transparent PNG from my jpg that has a white background.

Thanks again.

Tony

I have put this on my server and, apart from adding something regarding copyright (that c in a circle) Tony Gamble I am happy. I have looked at it on a Samsung S8 phone and it is quite useable

I quite like the font you picked with the shadow.

When you tell me how large to make the signature I think I have a workable system. OK lots of room for improvement but that can come over time.

Tony

Thanks for all that. I am not sure I'd want to go down the Showkase route if we can crack my needs within Juicebox.

I understand most of what you said but this is where I am a bit confused. You said:-

You can certainly add a third line to your Gallery Title if you like but the more you add to the Gallery Title, the more likely it is to overlap your images on a small screen. Juicebox was designed with the Gallery Title to be just a short, single line of text (and only enough space is reserved in the gallery for a single line of text). Juicebox itself will have no knowledge that your Gallery Title contains several lines of text (and in a larger font size).
If you want to include multiple lines of text and other content such as a copyright notice, then I would recommend displaying such information on the gallery's web page (but not inside the gallery itself).

Does this mean that the Juicebox has to live with the header and the footer all the time? What I like, if we can get it to work, is the fact that the 'Return to' and the Header disappear once one starts looking at the larger image. If I have to keep the header and footer then I don't think this is my way forward.

You have given me a suggested Gallery title. If I added a Copyright symbol followed by Tony Gamble, we could keep this on the same line as the Return to. Could you add this for me - maybe in the same blue as at the bottom of the sample I pointed you to?

What I had been thinking is that I'd hold these two lines of code on my PC desktop in a folder and I could easily modify the folder title before dropping it into the right place in Juicebox. I have not mentioned it so far but I have a couple of other menu systems which need different 'Return to' hyperlinks but with your two lines of code as a template it would be easy to create some variations.

I see what you mean about the overlapping but it would not bother me on a PC. I have yet to load it to my FTP to look at it on a phone, but so far I think it is something I could live with. You seem to have used a font with a shadow and that is a good way of ensuring it is relatively readable regardless of how light or dark the background is.

This web site is 98% an information service. I am not selling the pictures and craving a perfect showcase. As long as people can see (a) what is there and (b) the odd snap of themselves they will be happy.

Have you given me Times New Roman? I will read about Custom Faults.

I need, finally, to look at the Signature. Presumably I create a signature and save it to a jpg. Can you save me some experimenting time by suggesting the pixel width I need when creating the jpg?

Thanks as always for the help. It is brilliant.

Tony

Now I see what you suggested for that title box we are almost there.

I really need three lines to get close to my existing system.

http://www.tonygamble.uk/Art_Gp_Recep_2018/index.html

The top line is the yellow one "Return to lots more Hurlingham Memories". I could not see how to make it centred. Can you do that for me - in fact all the title needs to be centred. I am using Bookman Antiqua or Times New Roman Serif if we can have that please.

The second line is my folder title. In this case "Art Group Reception". The colour is RGB 33B4CA. I am not sure what the font size is but you can see it is quite a lot larger than the 'return' line.

This second line I will need to change every time I create a new folder. What would you think is the easiest way of doing this?

My third line I am introducing as I don't see how one creates a 'footer' on Juicebox. Mine you will see is in blue and says 'All images copyrighted by Tony Gamble'. I am suggesting we put these on a small third line. They could go anywhere but I think they ought to be somewhere no matter how small.

With that we pretty well replicate what I have been doing with Turning Gate. I like the masonry effect of the thumbnails. I am guessing this is not achievable with Juicebox but it is no great loss. The speed and simplicity rather than having to rely on Lightroom to support TTG is such a plus.

I'm out this morning - London time. I have not yet worked out where you are supporting me from but I will pick up and follow up any suggestions in the afternoon.

Many thanks for your help. I realise you are not here to teach me html coding but often the way to learn fast is to create a need to learn it - and I have.....

Tony

Brilliant. Almost there.

AH. I see what you are doing. I don't need a web editor. I add web instructions as you did in that title box. Clever.

I'll be back tomorrow.

Here I am - Sunday.

I'll start a new message so it gets a new time flag.

Tony

OK. I have bought Pro and am experimenting.

That gallery you showed me does not have thumbnails at the bottom of the large image. I presume I need to find it in Load Preset. Which was it please?

On my thumbnail page I have a message "Return to more Images" and this hyperlinks back into my main hurllist index. How do I do this from your thumbnail page? Assuming I do it, how can I get it into yellow.

On my large images I have a watermark "Images by Tony Gamble". I can't see where your watermark is entered.

I am not sure whether you around so foregive me if I do not respond instantly to your replies.

I think you have my solution - but I need a bit of guidance.

Tony

I hope this points you in the right direction.

It does.

I'll give it a try.

Many thanks.

Tony

The following gallery is created using The Turning Gate plugin for Lightroom.

http://www.tonygamble.uk/Step_Out_Reh_250218/index.html

Essentially it does what I want which is to produce a page of thumbnails that people can browse through and when they pick a thumbnail it produces a larger image that swipes on both PC and mobile and autodetects mobile screens.

My problem is that because it relies on Lightroom that has a huge overhead it take ages to create each web folder. I ge the impression that Juicebox could do it in a fraction of the time.

I am assuming that gallery styles can be modified. Can someone point me to one that starts off fairly closely to mine, please.

I'm happy to invest in the pro version but naturally want to do a test first.

Many thanks.
