Nevermind, I figured it out! For anyone down the line who needs a nudge, the issue for me was that I needed to set the "Show Image Overlay" option in the Main Image section to "ALWAYS".

Nevermind, I figured it out! For anyone down the line who needs a nudge, the issue for me was that I needed to set the "Show Image Overlay" option in the Main Image section to "ALWAYS".
I've got a set of galleries that, on mobile devices, refuse to show the nav bar, and thus once a user expands a thumbnail, they can't get back to the grid view without going back to the main list of galleries and losing their place. If I set the gallery to Small view and look at it on a desktop browser, the nav bar shows up while expanded. Am I missing something obvious that I need to enable here?
