The comments here provided the vital clue to solving my problem with a missing Config!

A new installation of Safari had somehow changed my Prefs so I was not seeing the "Develop" tab in Safari's Menu Bar.

In Safari's Prefs., Advanced must be checked;
and the "Show Develop Menu . . . " item then needs to be checked as well.

The user of Safari must then check the item "Disable Local File Restrictions".

Unless this is done, JBPro Galleries will not open locally and you will get the "Config file not found" error message.

It seems that my Bugs are related so I have added my comments to the GitHub discussion

Steven:

These are the notes that I made while I tried various remedies:
>>>>
Deleted ELS
Then JBPro did indeed Save to a default gallery to a folder named 'juicebox_gallery'
As you said, the name can then be changed in the Finder

However, the Freeze returned if I hit Browse from the Save Panel.

I then Downloaded the new version from Harman Air and installed the new Frame work.

Got error message referencing an “Unsigned” application

Re-ran the “for Catalina” Terminal fix which was successful

New ELS has re-appeared automatically

Unfortunately, I can no longer insert multiple files from the Image Panel’s Browse for images. I could do that previously.

JBPro became very slow to populate the Images Panel: it was very quick previously.

File will Save to default 'juicebox_gallery' but Browse button no longer shows the “New Folder” button

Trashed existing JBPro .plist

I then shut down the computer and rebooted.

On trying to open an existing Gallery with JBPro I was getting “no Config found” errors although the Config is definitely present.

Unfortunately it seems that I may have de-stabilized my copy of FBPro entirely with these experiments?!

I do have a TimeMachine Back-up so I tried to revert my installation of JB Pro.

Unfortunately, that has not worked completely because I cannot yet Browse for images and multi-select images from a folder of JPGs;
and there is now no “New Folder” box being shown if, in the Save Panel, I hit the Browse button.
Both of those were definitely available previously.

I probably will need to do a fresh install of JB Pro but I think that it might be wise if I wait for Harman's final runtime Fix before doing that?

Looks as though it is exactly the same issue!

I have only just received my MBPro M1 and Apple's Software Updater indicated that I should update to 12.1 — which I immediately did.

Then, having checked that my printers and scanner would work in 12.1, I then updated my MacMini M from Big Sur to Monterey 12.1 as well.
JBPro had been running perfectly well on the Mini until I upgraded its Mac OS.

And the symptoms do match the Bug: the first time that I needed to use the Browse button was O.K. but since then I perpetually experience the Freeze issue.

From your linked thread, it sounds as if Harman Air are aware of the issue and are currently working on a fix.

I could easily be mistaken but either the Gallery Folder box was grabbing its data from a  Gallery Name; or I am sure that I must have been able to edit the text in the Folder box because I don't remember having to Browse to save a new Gallery with a distinctive name.

I feel that the User should be able to do that.

I have been getting frequent freeze-ups when opening a new window through the Browse button.

The only way to Cancel out of the freeze is by Force Quitting from JuiceBox which, of course, loses the entire Gallery which I have just built.

I think that the Gallery-naming issue is one which the Developers should want to address in the next version?

Newer operating Systems are almost certainly going to require updated Applications so I really hope that the Developers are working on a new edition of JuiceBox Pro because it is software on which I depend!

I am running on M1 Macs and JB mostly behaves as it did previously on Intel Macs.

However, I have run into a problem when saving a gallery because I cannot edit the text in the "Gallery Folder" box.

The only work-around appears to involve hitting the Browse Button and creating a new appropriately named folder in which to store the new gallery.

I am almost certain that, prior to Mac OS Monterey and the M1 computer, I could change or delete the Text in the Gallery Folder" box?

I would like to be able to do that instead of needing to use the browse button work-around.

I have just run into one of  Apple's Permissions problems.

When one tries to launch JB Pro on a Mac M, you may get a message that you do not have "Permission" to access the file but no helpful suggestion for overcoming that situation is provided.

The answer is actually that you must run JB on an M Mac in Rosetta mode.

Select the JBPro icon in Applications;
Get Info for the JB Pro software;
in the panel that opens, check the box to use Rosetta.

JB Pro will then launch in the normal way.

Hope this helps someone else!

Ann

I should have read your Tips and Tricks!
because the answer to my "Config not found" problem was there in plain sight!

I had disabled local file restrictions in Safari previously but had not noticed that my installation of Big Sur had unchecked the option again.

So all is now well, and I can once again build JB Pro Galleries successfully!

:)

Steven:

Thank you so much for your reply.

Unfortunately I am still being blocked by a "No Config Found" error although JBPro has created a perfectly good Index, Config and all attendant files and images.

This is the code from the Config which hopefully may help you to see what is going on?

------
The Index is fully coded too but none of the browsers which I have can open it. They all (and Dreamweaver too) can show the HTML code but they can't display the Gallery.

I did do a complete removal of all files related to JB before doing a fresh installation of both it and Harman Air but still no joy.

The first line in the Config's xml refers to there being no CSS.

Could that be causing the problem?

Steven:

I am also suddenly unable to use Juicebox pro in either Catalina or in Big Sur.

I did download Harman Air, and ran the suggested script in the Terminal.
That  allows me to launch Juicebox and it opens with a preliminary screen stating that it is Juicebox Pro.

However when JB (supposedly Pro) opens fully it states that I am using JB Lite — with an invitation in the top to purchase JB Pro.

I have JBPro v.1.5.1 and there doesn’t seem to be anything newer?

It seems as if Harman Air cannot recognise the Config.xml inside the Web folder?

Or is Apple blocking JBPro because of it being from an "unrecognised" company.

At one point, Harman was asking for a particular password from my Keychain but that password is related only to Adobe Acrobat so it apparently was not what Harman was asking for!

Is there any known way to make Harman Air find the Config file?

Ann

One other thing that i came across is that Adobe Dreamweaver is showing an Error on Line 14 of the JB Javascript.

This may be something which you would want to fix?

The attached Screen shot shows where the problem lies but the image is rather small (it's reduced to 50% size in order to fit the forum size-requirements) so I hope that you can read it.

That would explain it!

If Apple introduced Fullscreen API support (including the 'Exit Fullscreen' button) on the iPad in iOS 12 that would explain why I only became aware of the issue recently when I looked at my own web site on my new iPad because my old iPad (which I sent back to Apple for recycling) was on iOS 11.

Their X Exit Button makes any web site that uses a Landing/Home page linked to various JuiceBox Galleries unusable by the visitor because they will have enormous difficulty escaping from the Gallery's Splash Screen and returning to the Home Page Index.

I am so glad that I discovered this and am now able to fix it  — thanks entirely to your enormous help!

It might be a good idea if you alerted your other Customers to this issue; and perhaps provided some new downloadable Presets to address this problem?

Steven:

Your clue about inserting fullScreenExpand="FALSE" was the magic bullet!

As a result, I seem to have got the Galleries to behave in the way that I wanted.

Home/Back Button is positioned Top and Left;
and
fullScreenExpand="FALSE" is now inserted automatically into the Config file;

That combination prevents Apple's "X" from appearing on an iPad;
and it also keeps the Juicebox icon for the Back Button at the top and left of the screen.

I have saved a new Custom Preset (which incorporates that change in coding) and the following is a portion of the .xml coding in that Preset:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding=w"UTF-8"?>

<juiceboxpreset showNavButtons="true"
    showAutoPlayButton="true"
    backButtonPosition="TOP"
    backButtonUseIcon="true"
    backButtonHAlign="LEFT"
    useFullscreenExpand="false"
    backButtonUrl="https://shelbourne-america.net"
    galleryTitlePosition="ABOVE_THUMBS"
    maxThumbColumns="48"
    galleryFontFace="Verdana"
    showSmallThumbNav="true"
    galleryTitleHAlign="CENTER"
    frameWidth="2"
    showImageOverlay="ALWAYS"
    imageNavPosition="STAGE"
    showEmailButton="true"
    buttonBarPosition="TOP"

etc., etc..

I can e-mail the full customised Preset to you if you would like me to.

As it turns out, there is no need to change the html in the Gallery's Index file at all;
just inserting this simple extra line of "useFullscreenExpand="false"" into the .XML code in a Custom Preset does exactly what I needed.

If you check the Galleries listed in the top three rows on my web site on a newish iPad you should see that Apple's X has gone and the Home Button is positioned on the Left and it now returns a visitor to my web site's landing (Home) page.

I can now apply my new Preset to each of the JB Galleries on my site; quickly reset details for Gallery Name and Splash Screen; Save and re-load them to the Server.

Your help has been really valuable so thank you!

Ann

Ahhh — NOW I finally understand!

Sorry, to have been so thick yesterday.

I inserted the text in a test file on the Site and you can get to it here:

https://shelbourne-america.net/Bronx_Zo … index.html

Pressing the Home Button (now centred!) will return you to my Landing Page where you will see a Link to "Lemurs, Bronx Zoo" (near to the bottom of the RHS column).

That link is to the file in its original form (before I changed the Script in the HTML code in the TEST version).

The newly coded file does work on the iPad in that the Back Button is the JB one; it is centered; and Apple's Horrible X has been obliterated!

However, the trade-off on a large-screen computer is that the images in a Gallery will no longer fill the Browser window (as you will see that they do in the original link to "Lemurs, Bronx Zoo" on the Landing-page.

It is probably not possible to further refine the Script to say, in effect:
"Ignore the Script unless the User is using Mobile Safari on a newer iPad" ?!!

Maybe the best answer is for me to simply change the Gallery Preset to use my new Preset (which is set up to center the Back-button); and leave Visitors, who use Safari on one of the newer iPads, having to endure seeing an Apple-X in the top left corner?

You have been enormously helpful — and extremely patient too.
As a result, i have learned so much from this event!!

A screenshot showing the error message:

Thank you for all of your help and the script too.

Unfortunately, I can't save the changes which I tried to make into a new Config into an xml which JuiceBox can read.

The attached file is what I attempted but it doesn't seem to work.

I did read all of your notes but I obviously don't understand the correct way to edit  or create a new Config.

My thinking too!

I will probably move the JB Home Button on all my existing Galleries to the centre position anyway; and then experiment with the html solution after that.

I have already created a new Gallery Preset (with the button centred) for future use.

It occurs to me that you might want to include a new standard Preset (with a centred Home/Back button) for your future customers?

Thank you so much for your extremely valuable input which has certainly helped me enormously — as does your excellent JuiceBox software on a very regular basis!

You are a brilliant Sleuth!

I made further Searches and found a number of other Posts on this subject — including one which stated that:
Apple has no plans to change the situation (with their ugly and disruptive X) in the foreseeable future.

So I guess that the API is the only answer although there apparently are problems using it on iOS Safari for iPads
(which, of course ,is exactly where it is most needed!).

I am busily trying to get my head around the extensive notes from GitHub and will try to implement their code — once I can learn exactly what code to put where.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc … PI#methods

It is interesting that the X only appears on the newer iPads because I was fairly sure that the X was something new.  Certainly, I had never noticed it until now.

You provided the answer: it only happens on the newer iPads and I had to replace my old iPad with a newer one  quite recently.

My difficulty was not understanding that I can only add one image at atime; and that I need to us "Post Reply" and not the more obvious "Quick Reply" box to do it. Oh well . . . .!!
