Re: Feature Requests

This was made possible in v1.1.0 with the introduction of the OVERLAY_IMAGE and BELOW_IMAGE values for the captionPostion option.

Thank you. I found out that even though I had selected "captionPosition: OVERLAY_IMAGE," it wasn't updating in my xml file when I hit "publish" (quirk or bug?). As soon as I went in and changed it manually (from the default "OVERLAY") it worked perfectly.

- On an iPhone (not sure about iPad or other devices) the Show Thumbs Button appears as an array of squares and allows the viewer to see a pop-out array of the thumbnails. On a standard monitor, the button shows/hides the row of thumbnails. Would like the option to have thumbnail index pop-out on a standard monitor as well (like a soundslides gallery).

You can replicate the Small Screen Mode behavior of Juicebox in desktop browsers by setting screenMode="SMALL".

I appreciate this option ^ but it isn't quite what I was looking for. My new gallery pages are looking good and working well but if this kind of option were to be included in a future version I'd be all over it. For an example, check out this gallery http://pmbphotography.com/journalism/portfolio5.html - click the four-box icon in the lower left to see the pop-out thumbnail menu. I would love to see a feature like that in Juicebox so I can continue using the dots as my primary gallery navigation but still allow viewers to see thumbnails if they want to find a picture quickly.

I will experiment with some other hide/show info combinations. Thank you for those options.

Best,

Thank you. I found out that even though I had selected "captionPosition: OVERLAY_IMAGE," it wasn't updating in my xml file when I hit "publish" (quirk or bug?).

It seems to be working OK for me.
I have just created a test gallery with JuiceboxBuilder-Pro. I then closed the application and reopened it, loading the test gallery. I changed the captionPosition to 'OVERLAY_IMAGE', clicked 'Save' on the 'Publish' tab and the entry was written to the XML file correctly. Perhaps a program (a text editor or browser perhaps?) had a lock on the file when you were trying to re-save it.

With regard to your other query, further thumbnail layout options are currently being considered (though dots in conjunction with pop-up thumbnails may be unlikely) and will hopefully be implemented in a future version.

Re: Feature Requests

I am really missing a 'gallery of galleries' function. I have seen the embed examples but without showing images for the individual galleries it is without any visual effect and is a uninspired solution.

What I have done is to have a top level gallery where, like in a normal gallery, the thumbnails are displayed below with one big picture, but with each representing an individual gallery and I have coded the linkURL so that clicking on the 'Open This Image in New Window' opens the gallery.

However, while this looks good, the user handling is not intuitive. There should be a better way of opening an individual gallery. Plus I do not seem to be able to change the text 'Open ....in new Window'.

Currently, the only way to have an index page of multiple galleries automatically generated with a corresponding thumbnail image for each one is to use svManager to create or import your galleries. The resulting index page would look like this demo page.

Plus I do not seem to be able to change the text 'Open ....in new Window'.

This, also, is not currently possible.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Re: Feature Requests

Well, my 'solution' is to use the juicebox standard view, but with thumbnails being the individual slideshows and overriding the link to open the individual pics with a link to the detailed slideshow.

You can see it here: http://www.yunnanexplorer.com/slideshows/

I think, while this has obviously missing bits, it is a better solution as it has the same look and feel (and indeed the same code) as the individual slideshows. The only real short-coming is the non-obvious way of opening the individual slideshows. I would find it most natural if one could click on the images (maybe in the middle, leaving the left/right navigation intact).

If this was somehow possible, I think I would spend 50 bucks....

Re: Feature Requests

Wrestling with a photographers website and juicebox, I found myself to have some more wishes for future versions of Juicebox for WordPress:
[*]setting to have JB display WPs scaled-down "large" images while embedded, and full-sized original images in fullscreen mode, therewith optimizing both loading speed and visual quality in the coming generation of HiDPI displays[/*]
[*]setting to change formatting of captions: no separate CSS font definition, no drop-shadow, no hard-coded inline padding (all of which tend to look horrible with captionPosition=Bottom)[/*]

Re: Feature Requests

I'd really like the FADE transition to do a cross-fade between the 2 photos, rather than fading to/from the background color.  That would be a much nicer effect.  Especially because the current fade-in of the new photo doesn't seem to work for me (or it's happening really fast), so the result is that the old photo fades out, then the new one flashes in, which is pretty jarring.

Re: Feature Requests

As others have said, control of the

1) thumbnail border width

would be nice.

My other request/question is about the image nav buttons that appear on the main image (when switched on).

1) Can the colour of the circle be changed? It's a medium grey, I'd like to change that grey. (In the same way as the background colour of the main button bar can be changed.)

2) Can the position of these buttons be changed? At the moment it seems that they're necessarily overlayed on the sides of the main image. I'd, for example, like to put them just outside the main image area.

Re: Feature Requests

@threadpiece

Neither of your requests/questions can currently be achieved via the available configuration options so we shall note them as feature requests.

Can the colour of the circle be changed?

Perhaps the easiest way to achieve this would be to modify the 'jbcore/classic/img/assets.png' file in an image manipulation program such as Photoshop.

Can the position of these buttons be changed?

It should be possible to change the position of the main image navigation buttons by changing the CSS margins of the .jb-navigation .jbn-right-button and .jb-navigation .jbn-right-button classes in the 'jbcore/classic/theme.css' file.

Re: Feature Requests

Could you add new transitions? Smooth fade and not fade out+fade in?

Re: Feature Requests

The feature I'd be most excited to see would be the ability to align the main image within the gallery (top, left, right, bottom) so that images of different aspect rations and/or orientations can be used in a cleaner way.

This has been requested earlier in this thread, so I'm adding my vote!

An afterthought: Having the option to have the size of the whole Juicebox gallery be dynamic (and derived from the size of the image currently be displayed) would be a great alternative, at least as far as trying to fit the gallery into an html page, as I am doing.

Thanks.

Re: Feature Requests

I think adding a <meta> node to each <image> in the config.xml would be great.  This allows us to pass additional meta data we might need on the front end.  If you could even expand it and allow custom nodes within the <meta> node, that would be even better!

Re: Feature Requests

- A social bar to share/tweet/publish on FB for each image
- Multilanguage version

Re: Feature Requests

- Multi-language (user configurable at least)
- Smoother fade transition

Re: Feature Requests

2nd marotr's request for the social bar.  If anyone has any method of implementing manually, would love to see it.  Currently the only way I've found is to make it static on a corner, but that shows over all of the mobile version as well.  Doesn't seem like a great method.

I use "add this" buttons which share or like the current image, I did not position them static, instead they are positioned relative.

example gallery http://www.marcopietschmann.com/urbanarts#13

looks good on mobile (portrait + landscape view) and desktop.

Re: Feature Requests

I am also interested in a way for thumbnails to be positioned vertically to the left of the main image area.

Re: Feature Requests

I am interested in a way for the main image to be as large as possible (aspect ratio preserved) within the screen area.

Re: Feature Requests

@TexStarPhoto

I am interested in a way for the main image to be as large as possible (aspect ratio preserved) within the screen area.

Try using the following settings in your gallery's XML file:

imageScaleMode="SCALE"
imagePadding="0"
stagPadding="0"
showLargeThumbs="FALSE"

A list of all Juicebox-Pro configuration options can be found here.

Re: Feature Requests

Facebook like, google+, twitter etc. Something that makes it easy to intergrate.
That would make the gallery a lot more atractive for the visitors.

Re: Feature Requests

The most important for me is:

-Wall/grid with thumbnails in Large Screen Mode. When user clicks on thumbnail it sends them to what there is now in Juicebox - an image with some thumbnails below (or above)

Also I would love to see:
- Tagging images and search box, optionally tag cloud,

Last but not least:
- Advanced Theft protection - I dream about better solution than disable right click.

Thanks!

Re: Feature Requests

I would love to have more control of the placement and behavior of the navigation overlays. I have them turned off entirely now, because I find it very distracting to have arrows superimposed on the image. I realize that they vanish when the mouse pointer is removed from the image area, but a user clicking through a web gallery tends to keep the pointer in one place so they can just keep clicking.

I think the best option would be to have the arrows to the immediate left and right of the image, rather than superimposed. Another option would be to have a much smaller activation area that makes the arrows visible.

I also plan to edit the arrows to make a more compact, unobtrusive graphic ... I appreciate the ability to do this, but it would be great if there were a small library of icons available as built-in option.

Re: Feature Requests

It would also be nice if it were possible to download or copy the link of an image without opening up an expanded view window. I know virtually nothing about HTML5 ... is this locking of the image intrinsic or is it a feature that can be turned on or off? I want it to be straightforward for people to hot link to images, and don't like the idea of requiring a (not very intuitive) extra step and an extra icon.

This is due to the fact that the gallery is displayed dynamically using JavaScript and XML and the images are not simply displayed on the page using traditional <img> tags.
One way to achieve what you are looking to do would be to link directly to the images within your gallery's captions.
If creating or editing your gallery with JuiceboxBuilder-Pro, this can be done automatically by selecting 'Images -> Captions -> Use Link URL' from the drop-down menu at the top. The caption fields for all images will then be filled with links to the images so that users can right-click and save the image directly.
